19/09/2008: Version 1 Beta

Following alpha testing the new version of FreeNATS has been released for beta testing and is now the current recommended version. This will be shown in any update checks and downloaded through the VM update script.

The are a wide number of changes in version 1 and a large amount of new features and options (detailed here).

Before updating you may like to read this information on upgrading from v0 to v1 especially if you wish to use test intervals less than five minutes (instructions are given for VM users on what to change if required).

A new VM (4b) is in the process of being uploaded and will be available for download later today. Existing VM users do not need to download the new VM, they can just update the software if they wish.

Although alpha testing has identified a number of (now fixed) bugs I am afraid you get what you pay for in terms of proper planned testing and release management so there may well still be unresolved issues - this is still a beta test. Please report any issues via the forum or directly, especially with the upgrade process.

Documentation for v1 is now in a support wiki which you are of course welcome to update and correct as required.

A great deal of thanks to all those who participated in the alpha test and found all those horrid bugs everywhere.

I'll be updating the website over the next few days as well with the up-to-date screenshots and features list.

As always; any suggestions, comments, bugs or other feedback is very welcome. At a guess a good 80% of FreeNATS functionality was user-suggested and about 98% of bugs found in test releases were user-generated. Give yourselves a jolly well deserved pat on the back.
